Free Praxis practice, and you can check where every question came from.

TeachDayOne is an independent practice app for 8 ETS Praxis teacher-certification exams. It ships 690 free practice questions, with 427 competencies of worked material drawn from the official content outlines. Progress is tracked by competency, it works offline on a phone, and there is no account, no advertising and no premium tier. Not affiliated with or endorsed by ETS.

8 rows. Tap one and you are in that exam, on a real question, with nothing to sign up for in between.

Not sure which one you take? Requirements differ by state and by programme, and we are not going to guess for you. Your state's education agency publishes the list, and your programme coordinator will know it in about a minute.

If the code you were given is not on this list, it is probably because ETS changed it. See which codes are current.

What test day is actually like

The part that unsettles most people before a Praxis is rarely the content. It is not knowing the shape of the thing. Here is the shape, for all 8 exams here, from the published test specifications.

Praxis exam specifications: questions, time limit, delivery, calculator policy and question counts for all 8 exams covered here.

It is pacing, not difficulty, that catches people out. Most candidates lose marks by grinding one hard item and then running out of clock on easy ones. Answer what you know first, mark the rest, come back with whatever is left.

If you have sat this before and it did not go well, the useful part of that is usually the mechanics rather than the content. You now know how long the test runs, how many questions are on it, and roughly how long you get on each one. That is a third of the exam handled before you walk in.

Which codes are current, and which are not

ETS retires exam codes and reassigns numbers. A lot of study material online is still built on codes that no longer exist, and nobody mentions it. Here is exactly what this material was written from.

ETS now uses exam code 5412 for Educational Leadership: Administration and Supervision, not for elementary mathematics. If a checklist handed you 5412 for elementary maths, it is out of date.

What each exam's material in TeachDayOne was built from, and how much of it is transcribed rather than written.

What TeachDayOne actually does

Eight things. No roadmap, no beta.

  1. 690 practice questions, every one with an explanation.

Single answer, multiple answer, numeric entry, and constructed response. The explanation is there whether you got it right or wrong, because a lucky guess teaches you nothing.

  2. A worked lesson for each of the 427 competencies.

Key terms, core points, worked examples, the traps the exam is known for, and a self-check. Not a summary of a summary.

  3. Progress broken down by competency.

Not one percentage. The number that matters is the name of the topic you keep getting wrong.

  4. Drills filtered the way you want them.

Everything, one content area at a time, or only the items you flagged to come back to.

  5. A timed full-length run.

The whole exam, on the clock, with the explanations held back until the end so you cannot peek.

  6. A self-test for each competency.

Five questions, reshuffled when you retry, and a mark for whether you have it.

  7. Offline, on your phone.

It installs to the home screen on iOS and Android and works on a train.

  8. No account.

Progress lives in this browser. Signing in is optional and adds cross-device sync and nothing else.

One exception, stated plainly. The written-response section of 5622 is case histories and a scoring rubric, not a bank of competencies. There is no outline behind it, so there is nothing to teach from one. The app shows you the cases and the scoring bands and does not pretend otherwise.

How to actually study for one of these

Five things. They are short on purpose, because advice you cannot hold in your head is advice you will not do.

  1. Do not just reread.

Reading over material feels like studying and is the weakest use of your time. Recognition is not recall, and the exam asks you to recall.

  2. Answer questions from memory, then check.

Retrieval practice, meaning self-testing, is one of the best-evidenced study methods there is. It beats rereading, restudying, and rereading your notes.

  3. Read the explanation either way.

Right or wrong, the explanation is where the learning happens. Wrong answers especially, because those are the ones you got lucky on.

  4. Come back tomorrow.

Spacing beats cramming. The same hour split across five days is worth more than five hours on one night.

  5. Sit one timed run before test day.

Full length, timed, no pausing. Pacing is a skill and it is learned by doing, not by thinking about doing.

One reassurance worth having. Practice questions in this app are not the real exam, and your score on them is not your Praxis score. Use them to find the competencies you do not know yet. That is the whole job.

Where the questions come from

This is the part most prep material skips.

  • 74 of the 690 questions are transcribed from published ETS Study Companions. They carry ETS's own answer rationales. In the app they are labelled ETS.
  • 616 are written for this app against the official content outlines. In the app they are labelled Authored.
  • The label is on every question. You are never guessing which one you are looking at.
  • All 8 exams here have their outline titles transcribed from ETS's own documents.

We do not reproduce ETS questions, answer rationales or case histories in our marketing copy. They are in the app, labelled, where you asked for them.

What it costs, and what it is not

$0. Not a trial.

TeachDayOne costs $0. There is no premium tier, no paywall, no trial, no advertising and no account requirement.

No account. No email capture. No advertising. No analytics. No premium tier. No card, ever, because there is nothing to put a card into. No countdown, because nothing here is running out.

What each kind of Praxis prep gives you, including the parts it does not.
Kind of prepWhat you get What it does not give you
A monthly prep subscription Structured lessons and drills, on a schedule you pay for every month until you cancel it. It does not tell you when you are ready, and it bills for the months you forget about.
One official practice test from ETS The authoritative format and the official answer key. One sitting, and no teaching of the content behind it.
A free quiz site Some questions, quickly. Often no blueprint weighting, and frequently the front of a sales email.
TeachDayOne 690 questions, 427 worked competencies, progress broken down by competency, offline on a phone, and no decision to make. It is not ETS material, it is not a score predictor, and there is no customer service behind it.

Prep in this category is usually a subscription, and a subscription is a decision you have to keep making every month. This is the one that does not need a decision. The arithmetic is yours to do, and the number is zero.

How to check us, since we have nothing else

We are not going to put a photo of a smiling person on this page and call them a user. They would be a stock photograph, because we have no users to photograph. Here is what you can check instead.

  1. Every number on this page is generated from the same files the app ships.

Add a question to an exam, rebuild, and this page changes. None of it is typed in.

  2. The app tells you which build you are running

, with a timestamp, in the corner. If something is broken, the report identifies the build.

  3. Nothing you answer leaves your browser.

There is no analytics script and no result is ever sent to a server, so grading keeps working with the network off. That is also why we cannot tell you anyone's score, and therefore why there will never be a pass rate here.

  4. Each exam names the document it was built from

and links to ETS's own page for it. Put the two side by side.

  5. Every competency in the app has at least one practice question.

That is not a boast, it is a check the build runs and fails on.

  6. Every question carries its provenance label

at the item level, so you can always tell which of the two kinds you are looking at.

We have no testimonials, no star ratings, no user count and no pass rate, because we do not collect results and we have never counted users. If we ever do, we will print the number and the denominator.

About Ms. Kaya, the AI tutor

She is optional, she does nothing until you turn her on, and she is not free in the way the rest of this is.

  • What she does.

Answers questions about the competency you are reading at the time, cites the competencies it drew on, and streams the reply. She is scoped to the outline rather than to generic study advice.

  • What it costs you.

A MiniMax API key, which you add yourself in Settings. It is a paid MiniMax credential. It is held in that browser and used to call MiniMax directly from your device. We do not provide one, and we cannot see yours.

  • What she is not.

A source of truth. The outline and the items labelled ETS are the source of truth. Where she and the outline disagree, the outline is right and she is wrong.

  • What you lose without her.

Nothing. Every question, every explanation and every self-test works without her. She is the one part of this app you could delete and keep the rest.

Questions people actually ask

Is TeachDayOne really free, or is this the free bit?

Yes to both, and the second half is the useful part. There is no paid bit. The whole app is the free bit: all 690 questions, all 427 competencies, progress tracking, the timed runs and the offline app. There is no premium tier to upgrade to, no trial that expires, and nothing to buy now or later. If a page about Praxis prep is trying to sell you something, this one is not it.

Are these real ETS questions?

Partly, and the app tells you which part. 74 of the 690 questions are transcribed from published ETS Study Companions, and they carry ETS's own answer rationales. Those are labelled ETS in the app. The other 616 are written for this app against the official content outlines, and are labelled Authored. All 8 exams here have their outline titles transcribed from ETS's own documents. A score in TeachDayOne is not a Praxis score, and nothing here predicts yours.

Is this official ETS material?

No. TeachDayOne is an independent project, not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by ETS or the Praxis® trademark holders. Praxis® and ETS® are registered trademarks of Educational Testing Service. For the authoritative version, the Study Companion and the free practice test that comes with test registration are both worth having, and both come from ETS.

Which Praxis exam do I take?

That depends on your state, your grade band and your programme, and it is not ours to answer. Your state's education agency publishes the list of required exams for each credential, and your programme coordinator will know it in about a minute. If a code you were given is not on the list above, ETS probably changed it, and there is a section further down for exactly that.

I failed one of these before. Is this going to be different?

We are not going to promise you anything, because we do not know your result and neither does this app. What it does give you is the mechanics. You get how long the test runs, how many questions are on it, and how long you have on each one. You also get a per-competency list of the specific topics you are getting wrong. Those are facts you do not have yet if you sat the test without them.

Can I use it on my phone? Does it work offline?

Yes to both. It installs to the home screen on iOS and Android and runs offline through a service worker. Progress is stored in that browser, so there is nothing to sign into and nothing to lose if you clear the app.

Is my data safe?

Your progress stays in your browser. There is no analytics script, no advertising network and no result is sent to a server, which means nothing about your performance leaves your device. An account is optional and adds cross-device sync and nothing else. If you use Ms. Kaya, the API key you add is held in that browser and used to call MiniMax directly from your device.

Do I need the AI tutor, and does it cost anything?

You do not need it, and it is the one part of this app that is not free. The optional AI tutor, Ms. Kaya, does nothing until you add your own MiniMax API key in Settings, which is a paid MiniMax credential. Every question, explanation and self-test works without her.

Can I see how I am doing by competency?

Yes, and that is the main number in the app. Progress breaks your accuracy down by competency and by content area, so you can see which part of the outline to study next rather than just an overall percentage. One honest detail: the written responses on 5622 are never scored by the app. They are recorded as attempted, and shown separately from your multiple-choice accuracy. They are 25% of that exam, and folding them into one number either way would tell you something false.

Pick the row and start

No account, no card, no sales call, and nothing to cancel later. Tap an exam above and you are on a question.

Pick your exam

Using the free option is not a compromise. If you are studying on a tight budget, you are not the person the paid tier was built for. This is the whole thing, it costs nothing, and the free practice test you get with test registration is worth having too. Use both.
