Free Praxis practice against the paid options

The table below compares what you get for $59.99 / month at Study.com, what 240 Tutoring offers, what a printed Cirrus, Mometrix, REA book gives you, and what this site gives you. Every price was read from the provider's own page on 2026-10-14 and links back to the page it came from.

The short answer

  • Your first move costs nothing: download the ETS Study Companion for your exam code and claim the free practice test that comes with your ETS registration. Every option here, paid or free, assumes you have already done those two.
  • If you already understand most of the content and want to find the gaps, this site is the faster path: 690 questions mapped to 427 competencies, so the weak topic is named rather than guessed at.
  • If you do not yet understand a topic at all, a subscription video library is genuinely better than anything here. Study.com lists 88,000+ test prep video lessons, transcripts included. Teaching yourself from a question bank when the underlying content is missing is slow.
  • If your weakness is timing rather than content, none of these fix it. That is a pacing problem, and it is handled by running timed practice against the real clock.

Cost and coverage side by side

Third-party prices read 2026-10-14 from Study.com plans, 240 Tutoring Praxis, and the Cirrus, Mometrix, REA catalogue. The same page lists Premium Edition at $59.99 / month, College Saver at $95.00 / month, College Saver Pro at $235.00 / month, and Classroom Teacher Edition at $29.99 / month. Praxis sits under Test Prep.

Where a subscription genuinely wins

It is worth being direct about this, because a comparison page that only finds faults with the paid option is not worth reading.

Study.com sells breadth. Its own plan page lists 88,000+ test prep video lessons, transcripts included, which is a library a beginning teacher can be lost in productively, because not knowing how accounting works is a different problem from not knowing which accounting topic you are weak in. Nothing on this site replaces that, and anyone who tells you a question bank does is selling something.

240 Tutoring sells a promise instead of a library. Its guarantee is that you get your money back if you do not pass. That is a meaningful difference in risk: a subscription you can leave costs less to try badly than a subscription you cannot. Read the guarantee's conditions before you rely on it, because guarantees usually carry time limits and eligibility rules.

Printed books still have one advantage that software has not taken: they work when the signal does not, in a car park, on a bus, or during a quiet ten minutes at work. A phone with cached pages does too, which is the reason this site works offline.

Where free practice genuinely wins

The gap a paid subscription leaves open is the one you cannot buy anywhere: knowing which of your 427 competencies is actually weak. A video library teaches you everything roughly evenly, because it does not know what you already know. You finish a chapter, feel better, and have no evidence about the two domains you skimmed.

A practice bank that reports accuracy per competency answers that directly. Open Progress and it names the domain with the worst score, and the next practice run opens on it. That is the loop a static book and a video library both lack, and it is the reason this site is free rather than cheap: tracking is the part that costs money to build and the part nobody sells on its own.

The second gap is provenance. 74 of the 690 questions here are transcribed from ETS Study Companions, and the rest are written against ETS's public content outline. Both are labelled in the app, per question, so you always know whether you are looking at ETS's own wording or ours. A video lesson citing a study guide tells you much less about where its claims came from.

How this comparison was checked

Stating the method matters more than the conclusion, because you should be able to disagree with it.

Frequently asked

Is Study.com really $59.99 a month?

That was the price of its Test Prep plan, the one that lists Praxis, when we checked on 2026-10-14. Plan card reads "From $59.99 / month"; selecting Praxis in the same card still reads "$59.99 / month". Prices change and promotional rates are common, so confirm on their plans page before you commit.

Do I need to pay anything to pass a Praxis exam?

The test fee itself is not optional, and neither are state licensing fees or transcript evaluations. Prep material, though, does not have to be a purchase. The free ETS Study Companion and the free practice test included with registration cover the outline and the format.

Is this page telling me not to buy a subscription?

No. If your gap is content rather than self-assessment, buy one. Read the free study stack on the home page first, use it for a week, and pay for whatever is still missing after that.

Which exams are covered here?

8, listed on the home page with full specifications. Each has its own page: for example Praxis 5622, Praxis 5101, and Praxis 5652.

Is TeachDayOne affiliated with ETS?

No. It is an independent project, not endorsed by ETS, and Praxis is a registered trademark of Educational Testing Service. Every exam page states which questions are ETS's and which are ours.
